Some mothers fought hard to become mothers—I am one of them.
Unlike most, getting pregnant for me was neither fun nor free.
It was hard-fought, expensive, and wreaked havoc on my body, mind, and relationships.
It was an endless cycle of:
⛈ appointments
⛈ and pills
⛈ and pokes
⛈ and surgery
⛈ and scans
⛈ and prodding
⛈ and testing
⛈ and expenses
⛈ and tears
⛈ and failures
⛈ and devastation
.
.
.
🌤️ and then finally, joy.
I’m one of the lucky ones who walked away with my miracle babies.
I’ll never want anything as much as I wanted them—and I’d do it all over again, for them.
But that sting that Mother’s Day brings to those suffering through #infertility never quite goes away.
So even though I feel like the luckiest mom alive to be a parent to my two wildlings, I still remember the pain that today can bring for many.
Many who couldn’t be mothers, who are desperately trying to become mothers, or those who have lost their own mothers.
❤️🩹
So to those struggling on this Mother’s Day: I see you, and just want you to know that some of us recognize how hard today can be.
To the mothers celebrating today: Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you’ll join me in taking a moment to appreciate how lucky we are to be moms. It’s something we sometimes take for granted, but it’s a damn miracle (and I don’t even believe in miracles).
